destiny & fate (36/100)

Do you ever think about destiny and fate? We can all agree that there are differences, some perhaps more subtle than others. Destiny is all about the pursuit of purpose, but fate is about accidents unforeseen, written in the stars (well, maybe "accidents" in our eyes). Fate is inevitable, whereas destiny can be flexible, since it stems from the practice of free will.  This is not to say one is better than the other, nor can they ever be truly compared; I would argue that both are beautifully terrifying in their own way, regardless how an outcome unfolds. "Que sera, sera" (the Spanish translation for 'whatever will be, will be') used to be comforting when, in reality, it bids farewell to the future your imagination has perfectly painted for you. Whether that's believing one's destiny will finally satisfy, or hoping that fate's consequences for reckless action will not impact you to the point of no return. Though fate's described as impossibly unavoidable, does having a say in our destiny give us solace for what could lie ahead? Or the bigger question we should be asking is if it's true that I can choose my destiny, how will that decide my fate?
